Is it starting to look sick, bald in areas or drop branches?
Then you may have a Borer beetle infestation which practically guarantees the death of the tree without treatment.
Confirmed infected areas:
The three main treatments for borer beetles are:
Soil injection is harmful to the environment
Soil injecting elm trees with imidacloprid is a risk to bees and the environment. All flowering plants and grasses around a soil injected trees are exposed to imdacloprid at a rate many times the agricultural label maximum
The disease can be confused with infestation by Mealy Bugs Pseudococcus, that are also a sap sucking insect.
It produces a black sooty mould on the leaves and trunk of the tree, encourage fungal pathogens and cause decline and death of the growing tips and eventually the whole tree.
We are looking for trees that have infestations to try using out specific and targeted methods.
The leafhopper infestation is rife across the entire SEQ area. We are eager to help stop these little bugs from destroying the most iconic of Queensland’s trees.
